Business Development Manager - Senior


Work closely with the team and Business Developers (BD) to strategically grow Subway restaurant count, weekly sales and restaurant profitability through profitable Restaurant Development, effective Marketing execution, and superior Customer Experience and Operations. The Business Development Manager will serve as a liaison and provide two-way communications from their assigned territory back to the Country Director and Regional Business Development Director.  They will build a collaborative relationship with BDs, franchisees (current and potential), the Company, and IPCA while conducting territory reviews in their designated region. The BDM will provide ongoing communication, coaching and support as well as ensure that uniform company standards are being upheld in each BD territory.  

  • BD Territory Business Reviews:  Schedule visits to restaurants and BD offices.  Tour the territory with BDs and appropriate staff to review business plan results and improve restaurant profitability and performance capability.  Assess restaurant operations, financial strength and consistency in the Operations REV programs. Review all observations during and following the visit with the BD to discuss the opportunities that could positively impact operations, guest perception, sales, and profitability within the restaurants. Observe the development quality through assessment of location PAVE and Franchisee acumen to build positive Nett Restaurant Growth.   Following the series of restaurant visits, conduct a business meeting with the BD & his/her key staff to provide a thorough assessment of the territory and address areas of concern.  Discuss improvements and/or on-going/new issues since the last territory review.  Provide guidance on how to improve in various areas of Development, Operations, Marketing execution, including Trade Area Marketing/Local Store Marketing, Technology and other key Initiatives and identify strategies to implement. Provide a summary recapping the results of the BD territory review as well as any Field feedback about systems and/or programs to Country Director and Regional Business Development Director at the conclusion of each territory review.   Report any serious or significant BD concerns and/or roadblocks to the Country Director and Regional Business Development Director and facilitate the improvement or change if needed. Contact the BD with any resolutions in a timely manner. If change is required, help facilitate the territory leadership transformation. Maintain on-going communication with BD and staff and schedule follow up territory reviews as needed.
  • Field Marketing:  Work with Marketing, BDs and local Agencies in growing profitable same store sales.  Assist market stakeholders in the way they approach and evaluate their business. Develop strategic initiatives that drive results. Provide resources, processes and tools to effectively measure the performance of each market. Provide guidance with local market level analysis and make recommendations that position the market to make the appropriate business decisions. Help BDs and local agency with understanding consumer/industry insights, media trends and standard analytical processes. Share best practices amongst assigned Markets and Territories.   Provide ongoing feedback where needed for local tests and promotions, local market Drive Periods, as well as, Mini R&D tests.
  • BD/Staff Coaching:  Provide on-going coaching to BD and staff in areas such as: how to conduct an effective monthly restaurant visit, write effective evaluations, ensure that the BD & staff have good understanding of all aspects of the business, understand relevant company reports, their purpose and how to read/analyze them. Recommend additional coaching in key initiatives, franchise sales seminars, Geo Optimization, mapping tools and trade area surveys. Utilize Country and Regional company staff for direction and answers. Develop and implement new best practices for BD and staff to increase the overall business in each territory in conjunction with individual profitability in restaurants. Focus BDs on business plans, goals and results. 
  • Work ongoing with Country Director and Regional Business Development Director and BD Contracts Committee to continually increase job knowledge.  Work with CD to become familiar with company reports, their purpose & how to read/analyze them.  Increase knowledge and development of assets pertaining to Development, Operations, Marketing and Technology strategies to increase the profitability of the restaurants, increase participation in key initiatives and carry out company policies. Keep current with company business by reading all company publications & correspondence and by participating on conference calls & training classes as requested.




  • have franchising relationship experience, network within the franchising community
  • Must have a positive attitude, be self-motivated, and have excellent time management and communication skills, flexible, good relationship-building skills. Must be able to see the "big picture" and "connect the dots", while being hands-on and detail-oriented.
  • A strong sense of pride in the Brand and be a team player and take ownership of their region.  An analytical and logical thinker with strong knowledge of Operations, Development, and Leasing, as well as a basic understanding of Marketing and Technology, along with company policies, standards and corporate culture.   
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people and enough executive presence to manage and influence external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of MS Office.
  • Ability to communicate (written and oral) in English
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of strategic planning processes.
