About the Founder and Director
Wang Shijia, locally born and educated, former VP of Investment and Head of Data Analytics at CapitaLand Group, launched the Ang Ku Kueh Girl™ brand in 2012 with a clear vision: to create a cultural icon for Singapore. Inspired by the traditional "ang ku kueh" pastry, the character's journey reflects Shijia's personal philosophy that "life is sweet, especially after overcoming its bitter moments."
The brand has evolved from a playful cartoon character into a multifaceted symbol of local heritage, with a mission to foster curiosity and resilience. Through strategic partnerships, Ang Ku Kueh Girl has expanded its reach across various sectors, collaborating with organizations including Singapore Airlines, Changi Airport Group, Income, Ministry of Defence, Team Singapore Women’s Softball, Frasers Retail, Starbucks and Citibank.
A key part of this success has been its digital presence, particularly its WhatsApp stickers. In fact, Ang Ku Kueh Girl was the first Singaporean character artist commissioned by WeChat International to create digital stickers for the SG50 celebrations, showcasing its prominence and popularity in the digital space.
In a groundbreaking move, Ang Ku Kueh Girl's artistic vision soared beyond the digital realm in 2025 and into a musical collaboration with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. Their production, "Lost Voice, Found Rhythm: A Journey of Self-Discovery with Ang Ku Kueh Girl," was a captivating exploration of Chinese music that played to sold-out audiences and further cemented the brand's place as a versatile and beloved icon.
